Fighting Sloth

Today I needed to do a long run. I was driving home from work, waiting at the stoplight. I could have turned left to go home and eat supper with my family, or I could go to the club. It is so tempting to make excuses to avoid working out. Today, the excuses lost. I ran 10 miles in 1:27:10, my best time yet this year.

My feet are blistered and my legs are tired, however, it feels good to have this accomplished. However, my race is to run 13.1 after swimming 1.2 and biking 56--I don't know if this can be done by my weak mind--and body.

Kona and Adoption

You need to check out the post titled, "Kona, the Tribe, and Orphans" by TacBoy. He is raising money for the MICAH Fund through the Janus Charity Fund which matches gifts up to a total of $3000. TacBoy chose to help families wanting to adopt Black or Black-biracial children. Thank you TacBoy! Here is a link if you want to donate Janus Charity Challenge.

Micah Fund Picnic

We had the Micah Fund Picnic today. It is great to get together with other families that have adopted transracially. It is good for the parents to talk, discuss issues that come up with our kids, and speak with parents of kids that are older than our own to see what might be coming next. However, the greatest part is for the kids, both adopted and biological, to play together, to see families that look like theirs, and to enjoy one another.

Poor Workouts

I've had some poor workouts over the last few days. Thursday was a 7 miler--with knee pain at mile 6. I slowed down and jogged the last mile. I am going to test the knee again on Sunday. Rode 21 today, but didn't have the energy to go further. This needs to pick up soon.

Chisago Kids Tri

The boys had their second triathlon of their lives on Saturday in Chisago. All went pretty well. The oldest, he is 7, couldn't find his spot in the transition area after the swim. Of course, this was his dad's fault for not better marking it. He handled it all well, got changed quickly and on the bike. His riding a bmx bike vs the bigger bikes he was competing with was an issue for dad, but not for son. He just was excited about all of the kids he passed on the bike and run. He ended up 8th in his age group. The baby of our family, he is 4, was first out of the water for his age group, transition went slow--mom was helping him--but bike and run went well. He placed 4th in his age group; one spot shy of the podium. They had a great time doing the triathlon, playing at the park afterwards, and going for ice cream with dad that night. So, lets hope we can instill in them the love for endurance activities.
